THE TRUTH BEHIND SPÜKNOF...

Whenever people hear the name “Spüknof” for the first time, they're not sure what to think. After all, what the hell is a “spüknof”??? To clarify any confusion, the name is derived from the word “Spucknapf,” which is German for “spitoon.” Consequently, the band has made it a habit to include a spitoon in their stage antics -- placed beside garden gnome “Metro,” the keeper of time and Spüknof's most beloved masqott. Through Spüknof, Metro has gained much attention from fans, who followed his recent kidnapping very closely and can now correspond with the newly freed gnome on his very own myspace-page. Due to his increasing fame, Metro is of course also featured in the video for “Going Nowhere.”
The Lynchburg-based band was founded in summer 2006 by singer and guitarist Mark Carey aka Swagger together with the former drummer. After playing several local shows as a two-piece, they filled out their eclectic rock sound with bass player Terry Johnson aka Swivel in 2007. It was not until February 2008, when Jamie Bates took the spot behind the drums, that Spüknof's sound was complete, and the band really started to take off. Since then, they have played numerous shows across Virginia, including Roanoke, Blacksburg, Manassas, and Virginia Beach, and even won the Battle of The Bands at Sweet Briar College in March 2008, resulting in daily radio plays on WNRS. Spüknof were also featured in an article in Lynchburg's weekly event newspaper “The Burg.”
Having become a local favorite and a big hit in Lynchburg's underground rock scene, Spüknof are now getting ready to take over the world beyond Central Virginia with their first music video (“Going Nowhere”), which was filmed in May 2008 by Chris Townsend and Fan Productions.

INSIDE THE BAND...

Mark Carey aka Swagger aka Nick So Schlecht– Singer, guitarist, songwriter and master mind of the band. His obsession with Germany, and especially Umlauts, inspired him to pick such an unusual band name, and because Swagger likes to go against the trend whenever he can, he brought back the mustache as well. Not only is it becoming a hit among fashionistas in Lynchburg, but he was also asked to replace Tom Selleck for another season of Magnum PI. Swagger's choice of poison is canal water from the Netherlands.

Terry Johnson aka Swivel – Bass Master and professional electrifier. Swivel is a free spirit and would not wear clothes at all if he didn't have to. He likes to express his Native American heritage with his multicolored mohawk, and whenever he is not playing music, he's trying to beat the world record in Extreme-Rubik's-Cubing. Swivel's preferred beverage at any time of day is anything that contains alcohol.

Jamie Bates aka Eurasian Caucasian– Drummer from Hell and Dance Squad Captain. Jamie could have been a soccer star, but lost his heart to music instead – the kind that will blow out your eardrums and leave you permanently damaged. Jamie has recently fallen for neon-colored bike shorts and tube socks, and likes to indulge in Maker's and Ginger. He insists that he is really not Asian!

Spüknof would like to thank:
Chris Townsend and Fan Productions, Sampson, Avery, Ryan, Dawn, Graham and everyone else who contributed to the video; also Janet Bates for putting up with the noise, Jhon Ackermann at The Recording Zone for an awesome job, all of our friends and family, and last but not least our fans. Oh yeah, and God, for giving us the ability to rock so damn hard. And whoever invented breakdancing and German women.
